Claire Hill, a sixth grader at Armuchee Middle School, was the top speller in the Floyd County School system’s annual Spelling Bee, held on Friday, February 19, 2010, at 9:30 a.m. at the Floyd County Board of Education office on Riverside Parkway.

Armuchee Middle School is the 2010 Academic Quiz Bowl middle school champions for Floyd County Schools. Armuchee Middle won two of the three middle school grade level competitions to take the middle school title. The Academic Quiz Bowl is a county-wide academic competition that was held this week at Shorter College.

Congratulations to Principal Albert Watters! He was chosen as the Distinguished Service Award recipient for Floyd County Schools for the month of February.

Congratulations to the AMS Math Team who tied for 1st Place at the recent Math Competition. Team Members are Cal Russell, Elijah Jenkins (placed overall 2nd Highest Individual Score), Haley Patterson, Maggie Willerson, Grayson Lanham, Clay Reid, Kaley Sutton, and Rachel Garland. Mrs. Laura Ann Smith is their coach.

Mr. Tom Centola, a World War II veteran, was one of many local veterans who came to AMS in November to speak about their service to our country. We appreciate their visiting our school.
