Curriculum

As instructional leaders, our goal is to prepare all students for success in and out of the classroom. We strive each day to give our students the best education possible.

At Armuchee Middle School, we use Standards-Based Instruction (SBI) each and every day in every classroom. Our goal is for all students to gain a deeper understanding of Georgia Performance Standards (GPS) through rigorous and relevant instruction.

Using a SBI Continuum, our teachers are hard at work each day to make sure that each student has the tools necessary to meet the challenges of a rewarding education.

Standards-Based Instruction:

·        Includes the language of the standard (learning goal)

·        Provides relevance for learning (essential question)

·        Supports a risk-free environment

·        Activates prior knowledge

·        Contains formative and / or summative assessments

·        Engages all students through differentiation

·        Provides remediation and enrichment

·        Allows the opportunity to demonstrate acquired knowledge through performance-based tasks

The SBI Continuum, put together by educational leaders from Floyd County, has five components:

We hope that you will support our efforts at school by continuing to be an advocate for your child’s education, and reinforcing at home the value of knowledge.

If we can be of any assistance to you, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Sincerely,

Mr. Albert H. Watters

Principal

Mrs. Jill Thacker

Preparing for the 2008-2009 CRCT (The Egg Bowl Challenge)

"It all started with a sign, one single poster stating 'It's Coming!' As soon as we saw it, curiosity set in. Every student made assumptions and every student asked 'what is 'it'?' Of course, no teacher budged. There were sworn to secrecy. Clues were given until it was revealed. A four month academic competition within our grade level between Model Middle was not exactly expected, but it's definitely a way to make us participate and interact with our classmates. Throughout the competition, there will be many challenges. We're all looking forward to beating Model Middle."  ---- LaRae Krouse, Student, AMS

Students hard at work within their team at the first challenge.

Students come together to answer a question at the 2009 CRCT Egg Bowl Challenge against Model Middle. AMS would go on to win the Egg Bowl 902 to 826.
