Parents are a central component of the education of America's youth. According to the report entitled Equality of Educational Opportunity published in 1966, a student's home environment attributes to 90 percent of a child's education, while 10 percent is influenced by the quality of schooling.
At AMS, we value parental involvement in our school and in the lives of every student. There are many ways parents can get involved, from joining the Parent-Teachers for Education organization and/or the Armuchee/Glenwood Education Foundation to emailing a teacher to volunteer in the classroom.
The Armuchee Middle School Council is made up of parents, business
leaders, teachers, and administrators. According to the bylaws of the School
Council, the purpose of the School Council "is to bring communities and schools
closer together in a spirit of cooperation to solve difficult education
problems, improve academic achievement, provide support for teachers and
administrators, and bring parents into the school-based decision-making
process." The 2008-2009 members of the School Council are Theresa Goble
(secretary & parent), Pamela Little (parent), Thomas Reese (business partner &
vice chair), Kim Durall (business partner & chair), Kelli Stamey (teacher),
Leon Bowers (teacher), and Albert Watters (principal).
The Parent-Teachers for Education (PTFE) is made up of parents, teachers and administrators who assist in providing the tools necessary for an excellent educational opportunity at AMS. From donating supplies to volunteering in the classroom, the PTFE is here to make AMS a better place. If you are interested in joining the PTFE, please contact Jan Rogers at (706) 235-0255.
The Armuchee/Glenwood Education Foundation is made up of parents, faculty, staff, alumni, and community volunteers. The Foundation awards teacher grants to improve educational resources in the classroom, provides schools thousands of dollars for critical-need improvements, grants college scholarships, provides maintenance to the WalkPath that provides every member of our community the opportunity to exercise at their leisure, free of charge, and is the TribeFest and Auction host. To join, please contact Lee Edison at (706) 346-1673.
